Mohammed Haque has run Nunns Newsagents in Hove for the past nine years.
Before buying the business, he was a waiter in a restaurant on the opposite side of Blatchington Road to where his business is now.
Although his last move was not very far, he has travelled a long way in life.
Originally from Bangladesh, he went to Egypt as a young man where he studied medicine and qualified as a doctor.
He then came to the UK where he first found work as a waiter before buying his own business. But one day, he hopes to be able to return to medicine.
He is helped in the shop by his wife, Shyida. They have three children.
Mohammed said: "I'm surprised to have been nominated.
"None of my customers told me they were going to put my name forward.
"I always do my best to help my customers, whether they come in regularly or even if I've never seen them before.
"If you want customers to come back, you have to give good service. You must never forget that customers have a choice.
"Even though this is just a small shop and most of our customers are local, it is important to give a good impression in order to make the casual customer a regular customer.
"I like to be friendly with my customers, I like my customers and I like a happy atmosphere in the shop.
"I suppose I'm just a naturally friendly person."
