Thousands of pupils will benefit from an out-of-hours 'Children's University' thanks to a £650,000 lottery grant.
The cash for East Sussex was announced today as part of a £1.8 million handout from the New Opportunities Fund, which distributes National Lottery money to health, education and environment projects.
It will benefit pupils at more than 50 schools through a three-year project, which will include the 'university'.
Anita Shefford of East Sussex County Council said: "We are absolutely delighted by this award.
"It will mean a dramatic expansion of provision for young people at 50 schools in East Sussex."
The project will include homework support, literacy and numeracy activities, computer skills, sports and art sessions.
Activities will be held in libraries, schools, galleries, businesses and community halls.
