The new zebra crossing in Portland Road, near the junction with Scott Road, should indeed be something to publicise and celebrate (Opinion, September 14).
After all, local residents campaigned for the crossing for many years and I was pleased to support them and lobby Brighton and Hove Council on their behalf.
I am now very concerned that a lack of communication with the council has resulted in unnecessary expense and disruption to local businesses and residents in Portland Road. Local people are right to be angry and I have written to the council seeking an explanation.
I want to know why this expense and disruption was incurred and what measures have been put in place to ensure a similar waste of council taxpayers' money will not occur again.
