The arrogance of our local councillors never ceases to amaze me.
They always seem to think they know best. Recently we had an announcement of bus routes being axed, almost immediately followed by transport councillor John Warmington announcing a doubling of parking fees in central Brighton, which he felt would encourage more people to use public transport!
Then Labour councillor Jackie Lythell said she had not received a single complaint about the proposed closure of the children's paddling pool on Brighton seafront and the construction of a new pool, which would cost £600,000.
But the next day, the Argus letters page was comprised almost entirely of people saying they did not want a new pool but wanted the old one to remain open. Someone even started a petition to that effect.
Proof yet again of a councillor being out of touch with public opinion.
If we can't rely on our councillors to properly represent our views, who can we turn to? Is it any wonder the turnout at local elections is so low when they treat us with such disdain?
