Brighton and Hove Council is guilty of the most breathtaking hypocrisy by blaming Sussex Police for the disproportionate number of travellers now descending on our town (Opinion, September 5).
Has Lynette Gwyn Jones so quickly and conveniently forgotten it was herself and Lord Bassam who voted - against overwhelming public opposition and, as I seem to remember, police advice - to open Brighton's first official and publicly-funded travellers' camp at Horsedean?
As pointed out by many readers' letters at the time, by taking this action the council sent out a message loud and clear to the wider traveller population that Brighton and Hove is indeed The Place To Be.
