Preston Park is regarded as one of our town's greatest assets and rightly so. As a ward councillor, I have had many letters and telephone calls complaining the large influx of travellers at the end of August deprived people of their enjoyment of the park.
These are legitimate complaints and I have asked senior Brighton and Hove officers how the park can be better protected in the future.
A recent letter raised issues of access to the park for people with disabilities. Certainly the bar which is currently in place to stop vehicles entering has caused problems for some people and deprived them of their enjoyment of the park.
Access to and protection of the park raises complex issues, but I hope as a council we can have a good overall look at these and achieve a positive outcome, although this may mean some compromises by different groups of park users.
