Several interested points came out of the fuel crisis. The main one is it is now clear any determined organisation wishing to make a point can put the country to ransom by blocking all Britains's fuel depots. We have no national public transport strategy to deal with this situation.

Because our national railways still rely chiefly on fuels such as diesel and petrol, unlike most of western Europe which now primarily uses electricity, we are particularly vulnerable during a national fuel crisis situation.

Those towns and cities which introduced rapid transport tram and monorail systems should now be extremely grateful for the foresight of their planners.
