I am no fan of New Labour, but it does seem a bit unfair the two things they are currently getting slated for are policies actually introduced by the last government.
The farcical Millennium Dome project was initiated by the Tories and it was also they who introduced the fuel tax escalator that has led to the current high prices. Personally, I think high fuel prices are a good idea, as they are the only way this country's unhealthy obsession with the car will be broken. High fuel prices to reduce car use, coupled with a system that gave subsidised or 'duty free' fuel to those whose livelihoods depended upon it, would seem an obvious solution.
