A man woke up to find a knife-wielding burglar in his bedroom early today.

The would-be thief threatened his victim, then fled through the same window he had used to enter.

The burglar climbed scaffolding to reach the flat in Sussex Square, Brighton, shortly after 4am.

The victim called the police and officers with dogs searched the area but there was no trace of the offender.

Police think the burglar, who wore a woollen hat, had been drinking.
