As a new age traveller, I am writing in response to the articles about the travellers' site at Hangleton Bottom. My heartfelt sympathies go to the horses and people who are continually harassed. However, why do the police not move in, or Brighton and Hove Council, to immediately evict any troublemakers?
Time and again these people set up camp on prominent sites in the area, yet they seem to be allowed to stay and cause as much nuisance as they like.
New age travellers do not attack defenceless animals, abuse people or prevent children's sports days taking place, yet are persistently and swiftly moved on. For example, when a group moved to the far end of Wild Park, it was issued with a police order to leave the next day.
However, when travellers surrounded the cafe at Wild Park, they stayed long enough to cause as much fear and discomfort as they liked. Why are there these double standards?
