Bulldozers succeeded in protecting a seaside caravan site from flooding, it emerged last night.
Environment Agency officials feared Wednesday's midnight high tide would swamp caravans near sea defences at Selsey and considered evacuating residents.
But a drop in winds meant only minor damage was caused to the shingle sea defences, which had been built up by five bulldozers.
Yesterday a Floodwatch warning - the lowest alert in the agency's new flood warning scheme - is still in place for the area, which is notorious for flooding.
