A West Sussex man died when his Jaguar XJS ploughed off a busy road and burst into flames.

Malcolm Brown, 28, of Meadow Road, East Wittering, was pronounced dead at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth following the crash at 12.30am yesterday.

His Jaguar left the A27 in Hampshire after a collision with a Ford Fiesta and hit several trees and a lighting column before catching fire.

Hampshire Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident, which happened near the junction with the A3023 at Havant.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man from Hampshire is in hospital with serious head injuries after being struck by a van as he stepped into the road outside a nightclub on Bognor seafront.

Peter Hines from Steep, near Petersfield, was taken to St Richard's Hospital at Chichester after the accident at 3.15am on Saturday close to the Empire Nightclub in The Esplanade.
