Another flagship family store is to shut down after almost a century.

Men's outfitters Broadley Brothers is to close its branch in Church Road, Hove, as soon as a new tenant can be found.

The move comes after director Christopher Broadley, 42, recently suffered a heart attack.

Although he has made a good recovery, he told The Argus that he has decided to retire early.

The move means the four-storey building will not be associated with the Broadleys for the first time in more than 80 years.

But although the Hove store is closing, Mr Broadley said the original East Grinstead branch, which began trading in 1896, would remain open.

Mr Broadley said: "The heart attack made me re-evaluate what I want to do at this point in my life.

"It was a warning and one I would be foolish not to take notice of, so I have decided to retire.

"I plan to spend time with my family and to do some sailing and walking, among other things.

"Sadly, closing the shop will mean that our three staff will lose their jobs but they have been very supportive and understanding because of the circumstances.

"There has already been considerable interest in the shop because of its prominent position in the town, but no firm offers yet."

Last week it was revealed that Hanningtons department store in North Road, Brighton, was to close after nearly 200 years.

The family-run business will shut next year after the building was sold to Regina Estates.

It was founded by Smith Hannington in 1808 as a small drapery shop in North Street.
