I can muster little sympathy for the Worthing driver given a spot fine for playing loud music in his car (Argus, September 26). On the contrary, I regard this as good news.

These powerful car stereos, now so common, are an absolute pest. Anyone who lives near a main road is subjected to a constant barrage of over-amplified bass which shakes windows and intrudes into one's home space.

The perpetrators seem to have no awareness of how far the sound travels and no concern for other people. Many seem to regard it as the height of machismo to drive around with windows open, imposing their personal choice of audio entertainment on everybody.

I hope the police extend their campaign of spot fines to the Brighton area.
