Last year I bought a copy of Tenchu for the PlayStation on the off-chance and discovered one of the most underrated games of 1999.

It had everything - a reasonably coherent plot, slick graphics and gameplay which kept you coming back for more.

Activision is billing Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins as a prequel. It is pretty much more of the same - you play a masked ninja who creeps up on his enemies in ancient Japan and cuts their throats before they have a chance to turn.

While it may lose a point for lack of originality, it really fails on two major gripes.

The first is the length of time it takes to load between missions.

Secondly, if you spend 20 minutes on a mission only to be slaughtered at the end in less than ten seconds, you have to go right back to the start and begin again.
