People in Mid Sussex are being asked to help in the investigation into bungling doctor James Elwood.
The pathologist's wrong diagnoses prompted a review at Mid Sussex NHS Trust, which runs the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.
Dr Elwood misdiagnosed more than 200 patients across the country, including 27 in Sussex.
He last worked for the Mid Sussex NHS Trust in early 1995.
As a semi-retired consultant in histopathology, he analysed hundreds of cancer tests in Sussex.
Dr Elwood's tally of wrong diagnoses stretched from July 1994 to July last year.
Concern has focused on his work at the Princess Royal and at hospitals in Bath, Surrey and Swindon.
The Commission for Health Improvement wants to hear from anyone about their experiences with Dr Elwood at the Trust.
The commission is an independent body set up to help the NHS monitor and improve clinical care.
A spokesman said: "As well as local people, the investigation team will talk to trust staff, other people who care for patients, patient representatives, managers and others in the NHS."
Health Secretary Alan Milburn has asked the commission to investigate after reviews into the work of Dr Elwood.
Anyone wanting to make comments should contact Anne Grosskurth or Paula Palmer on 0845 601 2238.
Dr Elwood has apologised publicly for his mistakes and co-operated with the review into his work.
The mistakes have had serious consequences for seven patients across Britain and have led to hundreds more being told they have a different condition from the one he diagnosed.
