A section of a main West Sussex road was closed for three hours yesterday - because it was covered in mud.
Police closed a 50-metre section of the A283 Steyning Road between 6pm and 9pm and called in a power washer to clear up the problem.
A police spokeswoman said: "The mud was causing some problems so we had to close the road off and called in a power washer to get rid of the mess."
Officers were today trying to trace the source of the mud, which they said was "spread over a large area".
