If fuel tax supposedly pays for hospitals and schools, why are so many hospitals being downgraded? Surely if there is money to prop up the Millennium Dome and the euro, there is money for hospitals?

I suppose the reason Brighton's Royal Sussex County Hospital is left alone is because the Labour Party Conference is held in the town. It would never do if a delegate was injured or taken ill and had to be driven for miles.

No doubt the harsh attitude to pensioners stems from the decision that their votes are not worth chasing.
