Beetlemania swept through Sussex at the weekend as car enthusiasts went for a world record.
Almost 1,000 Volkswagens took part in an attempt to set the record for the largest number of air-cooled vehicles in a convoy.
They drove from Epsom in Surrey to Madeira Drive, Brighton - and despite the pouring rain only a handful broke down.
Organisers of the Brighton Breeze 2000 rally are now studying video footage of the run.
Once they have confirmed the number of vehicles that completed the course, they will ask the Guinness Book of Records to officially recognise their bid.
Organiser Steve Carrington, of the VW Split-Screen Van Club, said: "We had more than 950 vehicles in the convoy from Epsom. We even had a VW bus with hydraulic suspension that danced to music along the seafront.
"Volkswagens have a universal appeal because of their distinct character."
