A poppy appeal crisis has been averted - thanks to the Argus and a wood importing firm.
Last week the Royal British Legion said its Remembrance Sunday collection in Brighton was at risk.
Volunteers could not find a shop to use for six weeks free of charge as a poppy depot.
Gary Foster, chairman of the Legion's Brighton branch, said an empty shop was found but the rent was £400.
He said the charity was reluctant to pay as it believed every penny should go to former servicemen and their families.
Happily, staff from Lionvest Trading in Church Road, Hove, read Mr Foster's appeal in the Argus and sent a £400 cheque.
