Burglars broke into an elderly woman's home and beat up her 68-year-old son.
The two men forced their way into the house in Church Lane, Pevensey, between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Friday.
After ransacking the 92-year-old woman's home they attacked her son, who was visiting at the time, leaving him with a black eye and bloody nose.
He was kept overnight at Eastbourne District General Hospital for observation.
The victim's mother was severely shaken but not injured.
The raiders stole a small amount of cash before escaping along Church Road towards Pevensey Castle.
They were both described white, in their thirties, 5ft 10in to 6ft tall, and of medium build. Both men had short dark hair.
Witnesses should call PC Costin Bonell on 0845 6070999.
