An arsonist started six rubbish fires outside shops and pubs in Brighton's historic Lanes early today.
He was spotted by security guards at Hanningtons department store and chased on to Brighton seafront but he escaped.
Police think the same man was responsible for a rubbish blaze outside Hanningtons last week.
No serious damage was caused last night but the Bath Arms in Meeting House Lane became smokelogged.
All the fires were started between midnight and 2.30am.
The man police are looking for has long dark scruffy hair, a pale complexion, is clean shaven and was wearing a green bomber jacket and dirty jeans.
