A man is today being questioned by detectives in connection with a fight that led to a man being stabbed to death.

The man, in his early thirties and from the Littlehampton area, was arrested and taken to an undisclosed police station.

An inquiry was launched after a 33-year-old man with stab wounds was found outside a house in Dorset Close, Littlehampton, just before 8pm yesterday.

An ambulance crew took the man to Worthing Hospital but died an hour later.

The dead man's identity has not been released as he comes from a large extended family and not all relatives have been informed.

Detectives today carried out house-to-house inquiries to try to establish the dead man's last movements.

It is believed he had been staying at the house in Dorset Close and got into a fight with another man outside the front door.

Scenes of crimes officers have been working at the house for most of the afternoon.

Neighbours said the area was known for its problems.

One woman said: "This stabbing was just an incident waiting to happen. There's always something going on around here, fights and arguments.

"I'm not surprised something like this has happened. If there is ever anything going on in Littlehampton you can bet it happens in Dorset Close."

A police spokesman said: "The investigation is still at an early stage and we are doing everything we can to try to trace all of the dead man's next of kin."

An incident room has been set up at Worthing police station and detectives are appealing for information.
