I was shocked to discover Brighton and Hove Council's plan to go ahead with a parking scheme in Hove, despite a majority vote against it.
The council claims it has the electorate's backing to go ahead with the scheme but, as far as I am aware, the only opportunity to vote was in its own publication, Brighton and Hove News, which is not delivered to every household.
consultation.
This is a major decision which will have a long-term impact and which deserves a referendum after a period of time has been allowed for the arguments for and against to be heard.
I challenge the council to prove it gave every eligible voter the opportunity to vote, published both sides of the argument and received a positive response sufficient to back up its claim it has the support of the electorate.
