A man who died from stab wounds in Littlehampton was today named as 33-year-old Andre Nally.
Mr Nally, of Old Manor Road, Rustington, was killed after an incident in Dorset Gardens, Littlehampton, on Wednesday night.
A man is being quizzed by murder squad detectives in connection with the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Scott, leading the inquiry, said: "A local man has been arrested and is being interviewed at Bognor Regis police station.
"We are still investigating the circumstances which resulted in Mr Nally's death."
Police are trying to recover a knife which they believe may have been disposed of near the scene.
Officers were alerted by a Sussex ambulance crew called to treat the man.
Mr Nally was taken to Worthing Hospital but died an hour later. A post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday and preliminary results are expected to be revealed later today.
Detectives yesterday carried out house-to-house inquiries to try to establish Mr Nally's last movements.
The incident happened outside a two-storey house, which was sealed off by police yesterday.
Teams of forensic experts were at the scene for most of the afternoon carrying out an extensive search.
Neighbours said the area was known for its problems.
One woman said: "There's always something going on around here, fights and arguments.
"I'm not surprised something like this has happened. If there is ever anything going on in Littlehampton you can bet it happens in Dorset Close."
