Brighton Bears' luck finally changed on Friday the 13th as they put four successive defeats behind them to dramatically win 93-91 at Edinburgh Rocks.

Bears finally came good at the Meadowbank Sports Centre with a much improved team display to give coach Mark Dunning a timely boost.

Brighton came through after a titanic struggle and it took two periods of overtime to separate the teams.

Dunning had seen his brand new team struggle to put together any consistency over the opening fortnight of the campaign.

But he will hope confidence will now surge through the ranks ahead of tonight's tough National Cup first round clash at home to Manchester Giants (7.00).

Bears' victory was their third in the last four meetings with Edinburgh and leaves the Scottish team bottom of the Northern Conference without a win from their opening three games.

Bears now have the perfect platform to build from today against a Manchester team who suffered their first defeat when beaten at home by Sheffield on Wednesday.

Co-captain Michael Brown led the way for Bears with a game-high 29 points, while forward Kevin Wallace hit 18 and point guard Micah Bourdeau 15.

Edinburgh fans favourite Ted Berry provided most threat for the hosts with 27 points as Bears triumphed in thrilling fashion.

Rocks made the best start to lead 24-16 after the first quarter and were 40-35 ahead at the interval before Bears clawed their way back.

It was level at 58-58 at the end of the third quarter and overtime was required as the teams finished regulation time locked together at 71-71.

Both teams scored ten points in the first period of overtime and Bears led 89-86 with a minute of the second period remaining.

Berry then sank two free throws before Bears forward Chris Wright nailed a three-pointer to make it 92-88.

Berry replied from long range to give Rocks hope, but Brown sealed Bears' much needed win by sinking one of two attempts from the line right at the death.
