A man was killed and three people seriously injured in a four-vehicle crash.
A Vauxhall van and Toyota Corolla crashed on the A22 at Upper Dicker, near Hailsham, at 2.42pm on Saturday.
The Vauxhall ended up in the opposite carriageway, where it was in collision with a Nissan Urvan coming the other way and a car.
Nissan driver Michael Foster, 61, from Eastbourne, was killed instantly.
His passenger was airlifted to Eastbourne District General Hospital with multiple injuries.
The driver of the Vauxhall, a 19-year-old man from Uckfield, and a 49-year-old Uckfield woman, the driver of the Toyota, were also taken to hospital.
The fourth vehicle involved was slightly damaged.
A section of the A22 near Wyevale Garden Centre was closed for almost two hours while emergency services treated the wounded and cleared the wreckage.
The identities of the three wounded people have not been released by Sussex Police, who operate data protection guidelines.
