A taxi driver suffered serious head injuries after being attacked with a wheel brace.
The attacker struck the driver from inside the cab and stole £70, then fled.
The driver was found staggering in the street by passers-by and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
The attack happened in Shirley Road, Hove, at about 10pm. The thief is said to have worn dark clothing.
A man was later arrested in Davigdor Road, Hove.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
