Broadbridge Heath boss Sam Chapman reckons his side's cup exploits can help them launch a promotion bid.
Heath won 2-0 at division one outfit Selsey in the John O'Hara Cup on Saturday, a fortnight after their 2-2 Senior Cup draw with top flight high-flyers Wick.
Chapman, whose side have lost just once in league and cup, said: "Some of our players are just coming of age.
"We will pick up as many points as we can and see where we stand at Christmas, but these cup games are giving us good competition against division one sides."
Jamie Taylor hit Heath's first after combining with Chris Hughes. Gary Brown kept the lead intact with a wonder save before Chris May sent Paul Young through for the clincher.
Worthing United won 2-1 at Shoreham on Friday night, Graham Waller heading the winner, then watched their rivals fail to close the eight point gap.
Second placed Oakwood were sunk by a single Kevin McCutcheon strike at Bosham, who are returning to the sort of league heights to which Richie Reynolds guided them in the mid-Nineties.
Oving's game with Storrington was off, allowing East Grinstead to move third with a 2-1 win at lowly Shinewater.
James Hylton and David Garrett were on target before Shine came back into it and managed a late Hendry penalty.
Wasps boss Bob Smith had just returned from a trip to Jamaica and missed the game, though he did manage 20 minutes as substitute sweeper for the reserves.
It was his first run out for three years but he said: "I've got the bug back now."
Hailsham defender Kevin Isted came up with a fierce last minute drive from 25 yards to clinch a 4-3 home win over rock bottom Crowborough.
Young Stuart Skan, an angled Dave Adams drive and Steve Monk's tap-in helped Hailsham lead twice but Crows kept coming back though James Lattimer (2) and Davis.
Hailsham boss Mark Leaney said: "We are still looking for a top five finish but we have got to start beating some of the leading sides."
Southwick are easing towards mid-table after seeing off Westfield 4-0.
Goals came in the second half from Sam Francis, Carl Southwell, Dominic Shepherd and Roy Pook.
There was disappointment for Mile Oak in the RUR Cup as they went down 4-1 at home to Sidlesham.
But even the visitors admitted their second division hosts were harshly treated by the scoreline.
David Ayre hit Oak's equaliser from the edge of the box.
