For a number of years I have supported the activities of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) by purchasing Christmas cards and calendars produced by their members. I am therefore pleased some of the Sussex artists involved and the organisation itself recently featured in an Argus article.
Although the MFPA clearly wishes to retain a certain degree of independence by not accepting State handouts (quite a refreshing attitude these days), it does occur that MFPA is an organisation worthy of financial support from National Lottery funding. Perhaps it should also consider becoming a registered charity, thus enjoying relief from payment of rates, income tax and VAT.
I am sure charity commissioners would look favourably on any application from MFPA for charitable status, notwithstanding the fact it raises present funds from the sale of Christmas cards and calendars. Many charities already do this in addition to sales through their various charity shops.
