A terrible accident a year ago on Brighton seafront made headline news.
Lena Ring and Margaret Kensett died in a car crash opposite the Queen's Hotel.
It was shocking for Lena's partner, their four young children and Lena and Margaret's mother, Maggie.
The car was wrecked as it wrapped itself around a lamp post and it must have been travelling at some speed to have made such a terrible impact.
Yet the driver, still injured, has no memory of the accident, nor does the surviving passenger.
There has been no prosecution, nor is there likely to be one because vital evidence is lacking.
An insurance claim is pending but even if that is successful, no money will ever compensate for the loss these people have suffered.
It's easy to forget, after the headlines have faded, the misery that continues for the bereaved after tragedies such as these.
Although the cause of this crash is not known, it's a salutary warning about the danger of cars at speed.
The headlines in the last week have been about a train crash which resulted in four deaths.
Yet each day an average of 12 people die on the roads, leaving behind others people like the Kensetts.
