After presiding over the most unpopular train service in the country, Connex has been given its marching orders.
Late services, cancellations and dirty, overcrowded trains have all been the bane of commuters' lives.
Connex had years to plough in the kind of investment which was needed to deliver the kind of service travellers expected.
Earlier this year it pledged more than £1 billion, but it turned out to be too little, too late.
Instead, Govia stole a march on its rival and came up with a package which proved too tempting for the Shadow Strategic Rail Authority.
Now the months of speculation and intrigue are over, the focus shifts to Govia.
It has clearly impressed the SSRA but will have its work cut out restoring commuters' faith in this troubled service.
It is now time to deliver.
