Brighton went top of the Kent and Sussex Regional League after crushing Mid Sussex 6-0.

It was a fourth successive win for Brighton but skipper Carlo Missirian was quick to praise fellow Sussex side Mids.

Missirian said: "We are obviously pleased but I must say Mid Sussex played well until conceding two freak goals.

"After that they had to come at us and it gave us more space.

"I don't think 6-0 is a true reflection of the game."

Barry-Jack Toohey gave Brighton a first half lead when the Mids keeper allowed his weak shot to roll into the net, wrongly thinking it had been struck from outside the D.

With Brighton temporarily down to ten men due to Terry-Alan Toohey being sin-binned, a repeat performance of the first goal allowed Richard Love to make it 2-0 and then Graham Pruce added a third.

In the final 15 minutes Love scored twice more to complete his hat-trick and Paul Daniels also netted to complete the scoring.

Crawley remain third following a 4-0 win over Marden Russets. Terry Higgs scored twice, with Rob Hallett and Stuart Donaldson also netting.

Horsham were 5-0 down inside half an hour away to Tulse Hill but they fought back to eventually lose 6-4. Ian Brown scored a hat-trick and Mark Ansell got the other.

Skipper Neil Burlinson said: "At half time we pulled it together and won the second half 4-1, but we could not do the impossible and come back from 5-0 down."

Middleton and Bognor lost 3-1 away to Old Williamsonians with Matt Ansell getting the consolation.

Worthing are up to third in Kent and Sussex division one following a 3-0 win over Newhaven.

Skipper Simon Holloway scored his first of the season to make it 1-0 at half time and John Massie converted two second half penalty strokes.

This weekend Worthing play host to Penguins who gained their first points since promotion to this level, beating Sevenoaks 1-0 with a Neil Watkins goal following a short corner. Chris Wealden had an excellent game in goal.

Eastbourne lost 5-2 at home to Old Bordenians.

Crawley progressed to the second round of the HA Trophy with a 2-1 win over Chiswick on Sunday thanks to a double strike from Terry Higgs.

Mid Sussex took the lead through Simon Hobden but ended up losing 5-1 in their match at Henley.
