Sussex's first 'super nurse' has started work in Brighton.
Vanessa Wright will be helping to ensure that children and young people in local authority care get the best healthcare available.
Her newly-defined role as a nurse consultant will allow her to progress up the career ladder and retain a more hands-on role.
Another super nurse is due to start work at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in December and more of these posts are planned for the future.
Our nurses are at the forefront of medical services and work tirelessly to help others, yet many are leaving the profession because the NHS does not offer them the opportunities they deserve.
The new nurse consultant posts are a good start in encouraging them to stay.
