Seventy Seeboard customers were left without electricity after a fault at a substation.

Some people in Polegate had to go without electricity for 13 hours because of a hitch with a cable at the town's Shepham Lane substation.

Among those affected was health worker Clive Baldwin, who said it was the third time his home in Aberdale Road had suffered a power cut in the past fortnight.

Mr Baldwin, 42, said: "I am not a happy person because there are a lot of elderly people living in this area."

He now intends to write a letter of complaint to Seeboard's chairman.

Homes were also affected in Bramley Road, Shepham Lane and Blenheim Way.

Seeboard said the fault was located at 11.15pm on Friday.

A spokeswoman said it managed to restore most of the supplies briefly on Saturday morning before it went down again.

Duty fault manager Karen Donovan said: "It was only a small problem which we fixed within 15 minutes.

"The reason it took so long to fix was because we had difficulty in locating the fault, which was eventually found to be in the low voltage network."

She added: "We apologise for the inconvenience."
