Detectives in Hove have reopened a 38-year-old rape case.
The victim is still tormented by her ordeal back in 1962 and says she will not rest until the offender is brought to justice.
Now in her fifties and living out of Sussex, she recently telephoned a rape helpline telling of her concerns. The organisation's manager, in turn, alerted Hove police.
The victim was 14 when she arrived under a care order to stay at the Salvation Army Home in Wellington Road, Brighton.
She went out for an evening with a friend, Rita, to Jaconelli's ice cream parlour on Brighton seafront.
There they met two older men. The victim, who was a virgin, was taken to a flat in Hove and raped.
The file on the case has now landed on the desk of Detective Constable Amanda Lawrence, who is trying to contact former detectives who worked on the case.
She said: "We have the name of one suspect and the nickname for the main perpetrator.
"Officers investigated the case but the surviving files are incomplete.
"We appreciate this offence happened over a generation ago but the seriousness of what we believe happened certainly hasn't diminished with time.
"This is one of those occasions where I hope one of our retired colleagues can recall the circumstances. It is a long shot but I hope it will work."
Ms Lawrence said the victim was still traumatised by her ordeal: "She thinks about it almost on a daily basis.
"She was held against her will and raped, a terrifying ordeal at any age but especially for someone as young as 14."
Ms Lawrence has appealed through the Sussex Police magazine Patrol for officers who worked on the case to come forward.
Anyone with information should call her on 0845 6070999, extension 55260.
