Police have named the elderly woman killed in an accident with a 30-tonne lorry.

Joan Ambler, 84, a widow from Sedlescombe Road South, Hastings, was struck by a Leyland Constructor tipper truck as she crossed the road near her home on October 26.

Passers-by looked on in horror as the pensioner was dragged 40 yards by the HGV before the driver realised what had happened.

Mrs Ambler died at the scene from her injuries.

The lorry driver, from Bexhill, was treated for shock at the Conquest Hospital in Hastings.

He will be among witnesses to give evidence at an inquest on the widow.
