Controversial plans to redevelop a riverside site are likely to be put on hold after a storm of protest.
Developers want to build 26 flats at County Wharf, Pier Road, Littlehampton.
But Arun planners have been inundated with objections, including a 4,122-name petition from people who say the scheme will damage the fishing and leisure boat trade.
Littlehampton Civic Society said the warehouse-style development proposed did not suit the town, adding: "The buildings are cheap and the style uninteresting."
There have also been more than 150 letters of objection, with the Environment Agency warning that the flats would be built in an area known to flood.
Now, due to the scale of the protests, councillors meeting tomorrow are expected to defer the scheme while further talks take place with developers.
