I was frightened and distressed by the behaviour of individuals I assume were trick-or-treaters on the evening of October 31.
As a middle-aged woman living alone, I do not answer the doorbell after dark unless I am expecting a visitor.
I stuck a piece of paper on my front door saying "no trick-or-treaters" in order to try to avoid hassle.
Twice over the evening, objects were thrown at my front window.
I became apprehensive about what else might happen and decided to call the police, who told me local patrols would be informed.
Is there such a thing? I do not believe the police make any effort to control such behaviour on the streets.
The whole business of trick or treat seems to me to be a disastrous import from the USA.
To my mind it is threatening behaviour amounting to blackmail and it astonishes me people see it as harmless fun.
