A blaze of colour lit up Battle as torchlit processions filed down the High Street to mark Guy Fawkes Night.
More than 10,000 people poured into the streets to witness bonfire societies from across Sussex dressed in colourful costumes.
The event, which dates back to the early 1700s, started with a torchlit parade and ended with a spectacular bonfire and firework display, with Battle Abbey providing a dramatic backdrop.
This year's effigy was made in the shape of a CCTV camera, in recognition of the recent Big Brother phenomenon.
Former chairman Ivy Castle said: "It was one of the best we've organised for a long time. Although it was a bit muddy, the weather certainly didn't put a dampener on things."
