A man was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in Horsham.
The 45-year-old local man was left lying in the road after the accident in New Street at 2.09am.
He is being treated for serious injuries in the Princess Royal Hospital at Haywards Heath.
It is not clear what type of vehicle was involved.
Sergeant Larry Culver of Horsham traffic police said: "The vehicle has been damaged and would be missing a driving light and a windscreen blade. It might have been left abandoned."
The victim has not been named by Sussex Police, who operate data protection guidelines.
