Residents could pay an extra £10 on their council tax towards the cost of re-opening Arundel's swimming pool.
In reply to a questionnaire asking residents whether they woulkd be prepared to contribute towards the re-opening of the open-air swimming pool, three quarters of respondents said they would. The majority supported a levy of £10 a year.
Arun District Council, looking to cut spending in the wake of rising costs and a mounting wage bill, slashed funding for the pool in a bid to save £1 million over the next four years. As a result, the pool closed last spring.
Now the town council has taken control of the pool from the district council but the wrangling over funding continues.
The district council had agreed to pay £142,000 towards the £300,000 cost of re-opening the pool but the town council has asked for more cash towards the project.
The district council resources committee will discuss the funding issue at a meeting today.
