Having been a local councillor for about 25 years, I have worked and co-operated with a great number of officers of Brighton and Hove Council. During all this time I have had the greatest respect for their integrity and political inpartiality.
I was therefore astounded to read the Argus' front-page headline on December 13 - Inaccurate, Hysterical, Resentful, etc - in response to a plea for the recognition of Hove. For a paid official to attack the campaign as "anti-Labour... aimed at a Labour Council" is quite disgraceful. Such remarks (if justified) should only be made by politicians.
I call upon the chief executive of the council to formally apologise for his officer's action and to confirm such an occurrence will not be permitted in the future.
-Coun Garry Peltzer Dunn, Brighton and Hove Council
