Recently, I have seen correspondence in The Argus regarding the flooded out residents of Lewes having to pay council tax on their temporary caravan accommodation.
Councillor Willson (Opinion, December 6) asks people to direct their fire at their MPs while agreeing the charges were unfair.
Correct me if I am wrong but I thought councils had discretion to reduce council tax, or waive it altogether, especially if a house is uninhabitable due to building works or whatever.
Surely these residents can claim a rebate on their house tax, which is presumably in a much higher band than a caravan.
