If Councillor Willson is leading the campaign to save Southwick Beach why was he absent from the recent public meeting chaired by local MP Tim Loughton at Kings Manor School?
More then 200 people representing a diversity of views turned up but there was no sign of Councillor Willson or any other Labour councillor.
The Port Authority No 2 was there and so was a senior member of the staff of the consulting firm of Halcrow who had actually drawn up the scheme for the beach.
One of the most interesting speakers was Derek Rawson, chairman of the Southwick Society, which has just carried out an extensive survey of local people's views irrespective of their politics.
The Southwick Beach Survey found 97 per cent of those who took part do not want any of the beach built on. This makes it clear that residents want to keep the entire beach as a vital part of Southwick's amenities.
-Jim Funnell, Conservative Councillor for the Eastbrook Ward of Adur District Council
