Albion wonder boy Bobby Zamora has not been affected by transfer talk.
The denial came from assistant boss Bob Booker after Zamora was overshadowed by Mansfield marksman Chris Greenacre.
A second-half double by Greenacre sentenced the Seagulls to a 2-0 defeat at Field Mill on Saturday.
It lifted the former Manchester City forward's tally for the season to 14, two behind Zamora.
The Albion star, subject of a rejected £1.2 million bid from Cardiff last week, could have equalised with a header.
But Booker said: "I don't think all the talk has got to Bobby. He is a good player and he is always going to score goals.
"He had a header straight at Bobby Mimms. They go in on another day, but it was one of those really frustrating days for us."
Albion's second defeat on the trot following their FA Cup exit at Scunthorpe was softened by results elsewhere.
Leaders Chesterfield lost at Southend and Rochdale have dropped to fifth after drawing at Lincoln.
Alan Cork's Cardiff, 3-1 winners at home to Cheltenham, have moved within four points of the Seagulls with a game in hand.
Albion play Exeter at Withdean on Friday night and Booker is anxious for a return to winning ways.
"It's a very strange feeling," he said. "Winning becomes a habit and we have just got to make sure losing doesn't become a habit by picking ourselves up for Friday.
"Three points is of the upmost importance for us now. A couple of other results went our way, but we could have got closer to Chesterfield."
Booker, boss Micky Adams and several Albion players face their former club Brentford in the second round of the LDV Vans Trophy.
The tie is expected to take place at Withdean on January 9.
