The robber threatened staff with a handgun at the branch in Bexhill Road, St Leonards, at 5.15pm yesterday.
Detective Constable Richard Williams of Hastings CID said: "There are a couple of people that we will be interviewing who believe they saw someone hanging around late yesterday.
Police were also working today with traders in the area to see whether they may have captured the gunman on CCTV.
The raider was white, thin, in his mid-30s, with a pale drawn face and deep lines from his cheeks to his lip-line.
