A motorist was killed after crashing his car into a tree on the A26 early today.
The man, who was driving alone, crashed his Daewoo just south of the Crowborough Army camp at 1.45am.
Nine firefighters from Crowborough used cutting equipment to free the victim but he was certified dead at the scene.
A fire brigade spokesman said: "I would have thought that death would have been instantaneous. There was a lot of damage to the car."
The victim was believed to be in his early to mid 20s, but formal identification has yet to take place.
