Albion boss Micky Adams refuses to press the panic button after back-to-back defeats.

He admits the last two performances have been below-par but believes the Seagulls are still bang on course for automatic promotion.

Last Saturday's 2-0 setback at Mansfield in the League followed a 2-1 exit from the FA Cup at Scunthorpe.

Albion are still averaging two points per game and a repeat of that form in the second half of the season would be more than enough to secure a place in the Second Division.

A defiant Adams said: "What have we got to panic for? I don't think the boys have been at it in the last two games and I don't hide behind things.

"If we had got a draw at Scunthorpe it might have been the right result. On Saturday we got what we deserved, nothing.

"Having said that, certain players have gone off the boil and that happens.

"We have lost one League game in seven and only two in 17."

Albion have an opportunity to steal a march on their promotion rivals against third-bottom Exeter at Withdean tomorrow night.

A sixth straight home win would close the gap on leaders Chesterfield to three points and put pressure on the other teams in the top five when they play on Saturday.

Exeter's fellow West Country toilers Torquay host Chesterfield, third-placed Leyton Orient entertain fifth-placed Rochdale in a key clash and Cardiff in fourth are at home to mid-table Macclesfield.
