A man suffered serious leg injuries when a car mounted the kerb to avoid another vehicle and mowed him down.
Police are trying to trace the mystery driver who could have caused the Renault to swerve at Copthorne Bank, Copthorne, just before 6pm yesterday.
A 43-year-old was taken to East Surrey Hospital at Redhill.
None of the names of the people involved in the accident are being released by Sussex Police, who operate data protection guidelines.
